Angkor Wat and the surrounding Angkor Archaeological Park were featured in Tomb Raider (and previous films). The temples are actual 12th-century Khmer religious structures, not sets. Walking through galleries of bas reliefs, under stone arches, and past moss-covered statues isn't a film experience — it's an encounter with one of the world's greatest architectural achievements.

The thing about Angkor is that sunrise visits are touristy but justified. Watching light wash across stone towers while mist lifts off the landscape is legitimately transformative. The park is vast (154 square miles), and most visitors cluster at the main temples (Angkor Wat, Bayon, Ta Prohm). Walking smaller temple trails (Kbal Spean, Banteay Srei, Preah Vihear) puts you in silence with archaeology.

Siem Reap town itself is developing rapidly but retains flavor. Night markets are buzzing. Killing Fields Museum is important but heavy. You'll measure this trip in emotional weight, not checkmarks.

Angkor Wat sunrise: Wake at 4–4:30 AM, arrive at 5 AM for sunrise (6 AM in winter). Watch light wash the towers. 2–3 hours in the temple. $37 entry (3-day pass better value if staying multiple days). Go with a guide ($12–20) for context and better routes.

Killing Fields Museum: Choeung Ek Killing Fields and Tuol Sleng Prison Museum. Heavy subject matter but essential context for understanding Cambodia. $3–5 entry per site. Guides available ($15–30). 3–4 hours total.

Budget:: Guesthouses in Siem Reap town. $12–20/night. Tara Boat Guesthouse or similar are clean and central.

Mid-Range:: Boutique hotels or upgraded guesthouses. $40–70/night.

Splurge:: Luxury resort or heritage hotel. $100–180/night.

Amok: Curry steamed in a banana leaf. Fish amok is most common. $4–8.

Lok Lak: Beef stir-fry with lime, soy, and dip sauce. Fresh and tangy. $5–10.
